چکیده

Abstract. Planktonic food webs were studied contemporaneously in a mesoscale cyclonic (upwelling, ? 13 months old) and an anticyclonic (downwelling, 2 eddy as well uninfluenced background situation the oligotrophic southeastern Mediterranean Sea (SEMS) during late summer 2018. We show that integrated nutrient concentrations higher cyclone compared to anticyclone or stations by 2–13-fold. Concurrently, Synechococcus Prochlorococcus dominant autotrophs abundance-wise (? 300 × 1010 cells m?2). In cyclone, functional groups such dinoflagellates, Prymnesiophyceae Ochrophyta contributed substantially total phytoplankton abundance 14 m?2), which was 65 % lower at 5 Primary production highest (191 mgCm-2d-1) 2–5-fold outside area. Heterotrophic prokaryotic cell-specific activity 10 fgCcell-1d-1), while least productive found (4 fgCcell-1d-1). Total zooplankton biomass upper m 10-fold with (1337 vs. 112–133 mg C m?2, respectively). Copepod diversity much (44 species), (6 small-size species). Our results highlight eddies significantly different community structure food-web dynamics environments, cyclones representing oases marine desert of SEMS.

Key Drivers of Seasonal Plankton Dynamics in Cyclonic and Anticyclonic Eddies off East Australia

Mesoscale eddies in the south west Pacific region are prominent ocean features that represent distinctive environments for phytoplankton. Here, we examine the seasonal plankton dynamics associated with averaged cyclonic and anticyclonic eddies (CE and ACE, respectively) off eastern Australia. We do this through building seasonal climatologies of mixed layer depth (MLD) and surface chlorophyll-a...

Anticyclonic eddies are more productive than cyclonic eddies in subtropical gyres because of winter mixing

Mesoscale eddies are ubiquitous features of ocean circulation that modulate the supply of nutrients to the upper sunlit ocean, influencing the rates of carbon fixation and export. The popular eddy-pumping paradigm implies that nutrient fluxes are enhanced in cyclonic eddies because of upwelling inside the eddy, leading to higher phytoplankton production. We show that this view does not hold for...

the effect of e-64 on the developmental competence of sheep cocs during in vitro maturation

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.

the effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...

critical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language

since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...
